trophies Main Event Individual Trophies
Top 20 players or top 20% (whichever is higher) in each section (winning record required), and all players in KG section.
Main Event Team Trophies
Top 10 teams in each section (and all teams in KG section).
A team is two or more players from a school in the same section. Top four players' scores constitute the team total.
Blitz
1. Individual Trophies to the top 3 and the top player in each grade.
2. Trophies to the top 3 teams in each section. Honorable mention to the rest. (2 or 3 players per team.)
Bughouse: Trophies to both players of the top 3 teams in each section. Section determined by higher grade team member.
Trophies Pickup: If you can't receive your trophy at the award ceremony, you may ask us to hold your trophies to be picked up on Sun 5/6/12 2-3pm from Bay Area Chess HQ at 1639A S Main Street, Milpitas, CA 95035.

All players in the Main event must be members of the US Chess Federation. All players playing in Jr Varsity and Championship sections must be members of CalChess.

Summary of Major Changes
This the list of major changes in the playing conditions... all in one place.
1. Kindergarten Schedule: Kindergarten section is scheduled on Sunday. Kindergartners may also play in K-3 Rookie, Beginner, and Junior Varsity sections on Saturday.
2. Rating Supplement: All sections will use the April 2012 supplement for ratings.
3. CalChess Membership: CalChess Membership is only required in Junior Varsity and Championship sections. It is not required in KG, K-3 Rookie, K-3 Beginner, 4-6 Rookie, and 4-6 Beginner sections.
4. Slightly Different Rating Cutoffs for Different Sections:
Championship Sections: 1-3 is 800+, 4-5 is 900+, 4-6 is 900+, 6-8 is 1000+, and 9-12 is 1100+.
Jr Varsity Sections: K-3 is 500-799, 4-6 is 600-899, 6-8 is under 1000, and 9-12 is under 1100.
Note TLA Correction: 4-6 unrated and under 600 (not 750) sections are one day on Sunday only.
5. Expanded Two Tournament Specials: Players in KG, 1-3 (unrated or rated < 800), and 4-6 (unrated or rated <600) may choose to play in a second section on the other day.
6. Electronic Recording Devices Reminder: Monrois remain the only allowed electronic recording device allowed. To buy Monroi at discount prices please click here to contact us.
7. T-shirts: Free T-shirts with early registration (before 2/20). Regular Price remains the same: Pre-paid $15; onsite $20 (limited onsite availability).
Financial Aid
Bay Area Chess offers scholarship to provide a limited number of financial aid awards based on need and merit of the chess player.
To apply for a financial aid, please...
1. Please send a proof that you are on the school free lunch program OR
2. Please send a copy of the most recent payroll stub and the latest income tax return of the player's parent(s) or guardian(s) OR
3. If you are a coach and you believe you have a number of children who need financial aid, please contact us at this link.
